Summer Vacation is Getting Closer!
Everything is quickly coming to an end for the McCarl Clan. School is almost out, the Jr. High performance of Willy Wonka is over, scouts is over, fiddle recital is over (which reminds me I need to post that), baseball is over, and all we have left is a tap, and one other production of Willy Wonka to go. Then we will have a few months to relax and it all starts up again...and we'll add Lainey to the list of activities... yikes! We had a great baseball season this year. Had a super coach that took a lot of time to help Maverick out with his swing and his fielding. He enjoyed it so much I'm sure he'll be back next season. One of the team dad's put together a great little video showcasing everyone on the team. I cut out Maverick's part to share with everyone here. Hope you enjoy!

Pinewood Derby!

Saturday Maverick participated in the cub scouts pinewood derby. He had to take a block of wood and turn it into a speedy little car. Since his daddy lacks in the skills of a carpenter we enlisted the help of Jen's brother Tony to help with it. He and Maverick decided on a design and he took the wood to the saw. After that it was up to Maverick to sand it down good and file down his axles for his wheels. We then painted the car cherry red, and with mama's help put on some lightning bolts and the #50. You may ask why 50? We asked Maverick that and he said... "well it's half way to 100 and I like it." Can't argue with that! Last thing to do was to put some weight on it. We thought we were at 4 ounces and didn't want to get to close to the 5 ounce limit, so we took it in... the "official scale" had it at an anorexic 3.5 ounces. Odds were not on his side at this point to win. He ended up in the 3 spot in each race he was in. He was head to head with one of his school buddies and said "look we're twins!" He enjoyed it a lot... win or lose it was a great experience for him!

Flood at the McCarls

Last week it rained in Washington, which it often does. We didn't think much of it as we went about our nightly routine. We watched TV and listened to the rain hit against our skylight. Around 9:30 at night though we realized we were in bad shape. Our garage started flooding, then the family room, then on to the washer/dryer area, and our bedroom (which includes a master bath and walk in closet.) The drain outside our house was not taking in water which meant the only place for it to flow was back into our yard. Our whole property from the front all the way to the back was shin deep with water. Our garage and family room was at least ankle deep. The rest of the back side of the house soaked through all the carpeting. A huge thanks to our neighbors Jen and Mike and John and Corinne for helping us as much as they could the night of the flood. If not for Jen we might not have had a mattress to sleep on. Of course extreme thanks to Deana, Brad and Gene for all their hard work the next day. All the carpet was torn out and all the water drained. We felt very blessed they all pitched in to help. Then Saturday more help from Christopher, Tracy, Cooper, Ma, Pa, Gene, and Cameron. Of course there was the much needed moral support from Michele as well as teachers from school who even volunteered to take home some of our laundry! It is so wonderful to know we have family and friends to count on when things like this happen. We love you all!! It will still be a long road ahead to get things back in order, but we know we will get through it.

I thought I would get a picture up of the kids seeing Santa this year. Lainey was so excited, she just kept talking about how much she loved Santa and that she was going to give him a hug. We went on a Monday night, so we didnt' even have to wait in line, it was great. Both kids had plenty of time to talk to him and he was very sweet to them. He gave them both a card that said they were on Santa's nice list. We were able to hold that over Lainey's head whenever she would start to act up!
