Flood at the McCarls

Last week it rained in Washington, which it often does. We didn't think much of it as we went about our nightly routine. We watched TV and listened to the rain hit against our skylight. Around 9:30 at night though we realized we were in bad shape. Our garage started flooding, then the family room, then on to the washer/dryer area, and our bedroom (which includes a master bath and walk in closet.) The drain outside our house was not taking in water which meant the only place for it to flow was back into our yard. Our whole property from the front all the way to the back was shin deep with water. Our garage and family room was at least ankle deep. The rest of the back side of the house soaked through all the carpeting. A huge thanks to our neighbors Jen and Mike and John and Corinne for helping us as much as they could the night of the flood. If not for Jen we might not have had a mattress to sleep on. Of course extreme thanks to Deana, Brad and Gene for all their hard work the next day. All the carpet was torn out and all the water drained. We felt very blessed they all pitched in to help. Then Saturday more help from Christopher, Tracy, Cooper, Ma, Pa, Gene, and Cameron. Of course there was the much needed moral support from Michele as well as teachers from school who even volunteered to take home some of our laundry! It is so wonderful to know we have family and friends to count on when things like this happen. We love you all!! It will still be a long road ahead to get things back in order, but we know we will get through it.

I thought I would get a picture up of the kids seeing Santa this year. Lainey was so excited, she just kept talking about how much she loved Santa and that she was going to give him a hug. We went on a Monday night, so we didnt' even have to wait in line, it was great. Both kids had plenty of time to talk to him and he was very sweet to them. He gave them both a card that said they were on Santa's nice list. We were able to hold that over Lainey's head whenever she would start to act up!
